Taborca

Use the Taborca glider for relaxing thermal flying or classic acrobatics. With hand-, winchlaunch or aerotow brought into the air it’s fun to fly at slopes or in thermal lifts. High enough, pretty acrobatics can be performed . During all flight phases the flight characteristics are very docile. The performance envelope and speed range is close to conventional F3J models, especially the minimum speed is amazing low. The climb performance when thermalling in rough air is even better than conventional models can offer.

To move all these flaps 6 servos are required. Since often more than 2 of these flaps have to move the same time, a  modern computer- transmitter with some mixers is necessary.

Technical data:

Wingspan:  333,00 cm                                                         132 inches

Wing area:   84,50 qdm

Aspect ratio:    12,82 (flat Wing) about 18 (effective)

Winglet hight:   33,00 cm                                                       13 inches

Winglet area:    2 x       3,60 qdm

Airfoil:   MH 45A

Weight:  about     3,40 up to 3,80 (electric version) kg,    ~ 7 pounds

Taborca electric powered motorglider:

The  motorglider can be equipped with an outrunner (rotating can) electric motor.  Minimum power required is i. e. a Torcman TM 280- 20 14p 14w  which takes about 22 amps out of ten 4/5 SC- Nicads (1650 mAh) or NiMH (2200 mAh), rotating a 12 * 6.5 or 11 * 10 folding prop about 7000 times per minute. This is sufficient for medium angle climbs and a lot of flying time, even without thermal lift or for aerobatics like a trainer.
The electric version is about 250 gramms (1/2 lb) heavier than the glider, but the gliding performance is not adversly affected by this higher weight.

Aerodynamics:

The size of the quadripple- trapezoid wings and the double trapezoid winglets provides almost lowest possible drag. A slight washout is necessary for a high performance lift distribution, which is produced by this wing. So, the dimensions of all flaps, their deflections and the center of gravity at the correct position promise not only good performance but also easy to fly behaviors along complete speed range and a very impressive agility. The induced drag can be, by this size of winglets, reduced by almost 15%. Especially at slow speeds Taborca’s wing has less drag compared with wings without winglets. Without these winglets a wingspan of about 380 cm would be necessary to obtain the same low induced drag values (effective aspect ratio). The MH 45 airfoil shows good performance throughout the whole speed range. It also assists the docility and accepts much flap deflections.

There is one disadvantage I have to publish here: Taborca does not accept the high speeds, which modern F3B models perform! In i. e. the  F3B- SPEED- task or very hard dives, some of Taborca’s flaps may (rather will) flutter, because the servos or their gears may not withstand the high loads, generated by the flaps.

With slight modifications of servo- cutouts at the wings, standard size servos will fit and relatively high speeds are possible.
Classic acrobatics like all kinds of rolls, loopings and turns and combinations of them are  possible already with 15 or 17 mm (mini) servos in 55 mm Servolocks (ROBBE #2).
